Phillip Karugaba

Phillip Karugaba is the Partner in charge of Corporate & Commercial transactions. This includes banking, company & property acquisitions, and capital markets. He has been named as a leading commercial lawyer by the Chambers Global Guide. Recent experience includes acquisitions in the energy, telecommunications sectors, and advising on listings on the Uganda Securities Exchange.  He has also handled advisory work in the nascent oil sector.

He is the spokesperson for The Environmental Action Network (TEAN) a public interest litigation group promoting and protecting the constitutional right to a clean and healthy environment. TEAN is also involved in tobacco control.

He also serves on the Board of Directors of Junior Achievement Uganda (an NGO promoting financial literacy among the youth), Profin Uganda Ltd. (a licensed financial advisor), Opportunity Uganda Ltd., (a financial institution), and on a Committee of the National Environment Management Authority licensing environmental practitioners.

Phillip also served as a lecturer at the Faculty of Law, Makerere University.

He holds a First Class Bachelor’s Degree in Law from Makerere and a Master’s Degree in Law from Queens College Cambridge.
